OHE’s Deputy Director is Standing for the iHEA Board

OHE’s Deputy Director Paula Lorgelly is standing as a candidate for the International Health Economics Association Board of Directors

The International Health Economics Association (iHEA) is one of the leading health economics organisations globally. It seeks to increase communication among health economists, foster high standards of debate on the application of economics to health and health care systems and assist early career researchers. It was formally founded in 1994 and is governed by a Board of Directors. 

OHE’s Deputy Director Paula Lorgelly is standing as a candidate for the Board of Directors. Her election statement of interest is posted below. Elections will begin on the 20th of November, and there will be a chance to engage with Paula and the other candidates via an election forum. All current and active iHEA members are able to vote.

Statement of Interest

Paula Lorgelly is Deputy Director of the Office of Health Economics (OHE) and a Visiting Professor at King’s College London. Prior to joining OHE she held positions at the Universities of Nottingham, East Anglia, and Glasgow and most recently was an Associate Professor at Monash University.

Paula has attended and/or contributed to every iHEA congress since 2001; either as a reviewer/scientific committee member, presenter, panel organiser or chair, or as an enthusiastic participant. At the most recent iHEA she was a Programme Chair on the Scientific Committee, organised (and chaired) a Special Interest Session, co-organised a Special Organised Session, and participated in the mentoring lunch for PhD students and early-career researchers.

Paula’s skills, experience and diversity will allow her to make important contributions to the Board.  She will bring to the role her experience of a range of organisational structures across the academic, public, charitable and private sectors (OHE is a charitable research organisation) and her expertise in high-level management. She is a strong supporter of early-career researchers and has supervised a number of PhD and post-docs. She believes that it is important that iHEA improves its global presence including supporting early-career researchers around the world, supporting formal training and providing continuing professional development.  In addition to living/working in New Zealand, UK, Australia and Germany, Paula has undertaken research in Ghana, Uganda, India, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, China and Zimbabwe, thus has a strong appreciation of the need for capacity building in low and middle income countries.
