OHE Deputy Director Jon Sussex will be leaving OHE in early June to take up the role of Chief Economist at RAND Europe and Co-Director (with Martin Roland) of the Cambridge Centre for Health Services Research.
OHE’s Director Adrian Towse said
“This is a great opportunity for Jon but a huge loss to OHE. He has done a fantastic job over the last eighteen years, helping to transform OHE from a small narrowly focused body to one that punches above its weight in both the quality of both its research and its consulting work both in the UK and internationally.”
“Jon’s achievements at OHE are too numerous to list, but I will mention three – the OHE Commissions on
Productivity and on
Competition, which placed OHE at the centre of two important intellectual and policy issues for the NHS, with lasting impact – and his (continuing) work on the returns to
biomedical research. I am convinced that the work undertaken by Jon and others for the
MRC helped to persuade the Coalition Government, when it came into office in 2010, to ring fence public biomedical research funding as well as NHS funding.”
“In the meantime I wish Jon every success, and hope that we can build on the current collaborative working relationship between OHE and RAND Europe when Jon takes up his post.”
Jon Sussex will leave OHE at the end of May and join RAND Europe in June. He said “I have very much enjoyed my time at OHE and am sorry to be leaving such a good team, but this is a great opportunity for me and I am looking forward to the new challenge.”
