OHE Presents at Two Key Workshops on Use of EQ-5D in HTA Across Asia

OHE’s Prof Nancy Devlin presented at two key workshops held for researchers and HTA policy makers from across Asia. The workshops were organised by Prof Nan Luo, National University of Singapore, in collaboration with the EuroQol Group.

OHE’s Prof Nancy Devlin presented at two key workshops held for researchers and HTA policy makers from across Asia. The workshops were organised by Prof Nan Luo, National University of Singapore, in collaboration with the EuroQol Group.

The first workshop, on 21 March, focussed on training researchers  in the methods to be used in developing EQ-5D-5L value sets. The workshop introduced researchers to the methods used to elicit preferences, the EuroQol Group’s study protocol and software to use in such studies (the EQ-VT). It also demonstrated the interview techniques for obtaining preferences data and the methods to be used in monitoring and analysing data. The workshop was attended by research teams from Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore and South Korea, countries where EQ-5D-5L value set studies are about to begin. Nancy Devlin led the workshop sessions, which also involved Mark Oppe, from the EuroQol Group Executive Office, and Professor Nan Luo. The three have experience in running value set studies in England, The Netherlands and China, respectively.

The second workshop, on 22 March, was titled “Valuing health outcomes for health care decision making using EQ-5D: A symposium for policy makers and researchers in Asia”. This symposium focussed on the use of EQ-5D in decision making, and specifically the prospects for using EQ-5D in the emerging HTA systems in a range of Asian countries. The symposium brought together decision makers from 10 countries – China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore and South Korea – for a lively discussion about how health outcomes should be measured and valued in the context of HTA.
