The Office of Health Economics is pleased to announce the appointment of two Economists. Dr Yan Feng specialises in understanding what incentives affect the behaviour of health care professionals; Arik Mordoh specialises in the economic and legal aspects of competition in the UK and EU.
The Office of Health Economics is pleased to announce the appointment of two Economists.
Dr. Yan Feng joined OHE in early 2011. Before that, she was a research assistant at the Health Economics Research Unit at the University of Aberdeen on a project that examined how financial incentives may interact with the personal motivation of health care professionals. The research was funded by the Scottish Collaboration for Public Health Research & Policy.
Yan’s research interests include understanding what motivates health care professionals, financial and non-financial incentives in the health care sector, applied microeconometrics and labour economics. She holds a PhD in health economics from the University of Aberdeen, an MSc in Economics (Edinburgh) and a BSc in Statistics (Beijing).
Yan’s appointment further strengthens OHE’s specialised research expertise. In addition to pursuing further research on the factors influencing health care supply, Yan will be contributing to OHE’s wider research and consulting programme.
Mr. Arik Mordoh joined OHE at the end of 2010. He specialises in the economics of competition and regulation, and UK and EU competition law. Prior to the OHE, Arik was with the UK Competition Commission, where he was involved in a wide range of cases involving utility regulation and market investigation inquiries. He also has taught competition policy as an associate professor at the University of Girona, and microeconomics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Arik has an MSc in competition and market regulation from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
At the OHE, Arik’s expertise will be particularly valuable to the deliberations of the OHE’s Commission on Competition in the NHS, launched in 2011. Arik is serving as the secretariat for that project and providing research support. Currently, his other projects at OHE include exploring the interdependence of medical research funding from public and charitable sources, and the effects of the EU Transparency Directive on pricing decisions.
