The Structural Genomics Consortium Oxford, University of Oxford, in collaboration with OHE (Prof Adrian Towse) and Dr Jorge Mestre-Ferrandiz, is recruiting for a Postdoctoral Position in “The Economics of life sciences’ R&D”.
This is a unique opportunity to join a highly reputable team, to establish answers to the following questions, focusing on both closed and open systems of innovation:
- What are the R&D models being practised and considered for the future?
- Who are the stakeholders in drug discovery and what are their roles?
- How are these contributors changing?
- What are the alternative strategies to conventional intellectual property (IP) protection?
- At what stage should pre-competitive research become competitive?
- What are the economic benefits of different R&D models, for all stakeholders?
- What are the scientific and societal benefits of these new models?
We are looking for an individual who holds a first degree, preferably majoring in economics and a postgraduate qualification in economics or health economics, with a special focus on the economics of innovation/industrial organisation. Experience in a pharmaceutical, health care or related industry, or in academia with a focus on these areas is essential.
The position is available fixed-term to 31 December 2019 in the first instance. The successful applicant will be based in Oxford but will be expected to undertake some travelling to engage with partners, in particular OHE in London.
