* 'Early bird' rate of £140 + VAT available for limited period *
Why this conference?
The Secretary of State for Health, Andy Burnham, has said that ‘the vision for the future has to be that patients themselves become the pre-eminent force holding the NHS to account’. Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) are now being collected by the NHS in a world first for any health system and they have the potential to place patients’ views at the centre of what the NHS does. Patients’ own perceptions of their health and the effectiveness of their care are crucial in measuring quality and can be used to inform budget allocations, provide indicators of providers’ performance, inform patient choice, identify variations in clinical quality within provider units, and potentially help balance demand between primary and secondary care.
This conference, produced in partnership between the Office of Health Economics and The King’s Fund, will take a practical look at how health professionals should be presenting and using PROMs data to improve the quality of services in their trusts.
Keynote speakers.
Professor Martin Buxton, Professor of Health Economics, Brunel University, on the opportunities and practical challenges for using PROMS to inform resource allocation and achieve better value for money.
Bob Ricketts, Director of System Management and New Enterprise, Department of Health, will give the Department's overview of how PROMs data should now be used and how they fit into the wider quality and reform agenda.

=> look at the practical implications of PROMs as a tool to ensuring patients receive better care
