- Jorge Mestre-Ferrandiz chaired and presented in the session ‘Is pharmaceutical innovation linked to public health needs?’ at DIA’s 20th European Annual Meeting. This session was organised by Clare McGrath, Senior Director, Evidence Based Strategies, Medical Division, Pfizer, UK, and Dagmar Stara, Head of Registration Unit, State Institute for Drug Control, Slovak Republic. It considered how R&D priorities are set, and the links to intellectual property (IP), pricing and market regulation. It also focused on “incremental” or “me too” innovation. Jorge’s presentation, “The Economics of Innovation” discussed four main topics: The economics of innovation; innovation in pharmaceuticals; the links between pricing and R&D; and what 3rd party payers say they want from new medicines.
