Jorge presented an overview of how pharmaceutical markets are regulated, in terms of prices and profits, across Europe focussing on three key regulatory measures: domestic reference pricing, rate of return regulation and health technology assessments. Jorge concluded by offering some views on the effects of economic regulation in the pharmaceutical market, focusing on the short run impact on cost containment versus the long run effect on incentives for pharmaceutical R&D.
